It’s taken me a good while to write this review and get over the experience with Medivet Richmond. I was with Medivet Acton and found them caring and animal focused so when an emergency out of hours arose I chose to go with Medivet Richmond, sadly that was the worst choice I have ever made. My older cat showed symptoms as previously with UTI which had twice before been treated successfully and quickly. I called and was told I would need to agree payment of £160 before I could secure an emergency appointment, on arrival the vet was adamant that my cat would need an ultrasound,bloods and overnight stay quoting upwards of £3000, I did not have insurance which I fully own as being completely irresponsible and live with that guilt. I explained I could not afford this and asked if he could be given treatment he had previously had as the symptoms were identical and it’s common in older cats with kidney decline to get multiple UTIs having been explained this by his regular vet. The vet refused saying he could not give these without knowing if this was the case so I had 3 options, take him home and get a urine sample, while he watched my cat scream in pain trying to urinate and passing blood, this would take 3-4 days for results, admit and pay or euthanasia. The whole time he stood and watched my cat in extreme agony trying to urinate and only passing blood and didn’t flinch. I sadly had to make the hardest decision of my life, I chose to euthanise as I could not afford upwards of 3k. It then got worse, he took my cat to put a canula in, told me to go pay while I waited, I guess the worry being I would walk out in my distress and fail to pay. He came back, I held my cat and the injection was administered not as had been done before with my previous 20 year old cat at a different surgery , slowly and with care but forced in so quickly making my animal scream and lodge his claws in my face, then just dead, not a slow going to sleep. I sat and said goodbye for a period, the guilt and sadness was overwhelming. This was not how things should end after 17 years, I failed him. When it was time to go, this man again showed no compassion, I went to hand my cat to him and was met with’ just put it on the table’ I understand that vets see people with no insurance as irresponsible but to have no spark of compassion or care for a suffering animal that your profession is there for is beyond comprehension. The vet in question was I believe called Dimitri and I would warn anyone to think twice before using Medivet Richmond, I can’t imagine all the vets there are as callous but in an emergency I would definitely call elsewhere.

Thank you to the kind staff who put our family dog to sleep, my mum and dad had no money and the dog was so poorly, if it wasn’t for your kindness you showed them Ruby would have suffered, thank you sooo much.

Excellent care & service. Our Jack Russell became sick on a Saturday afternoon. We called the vet and were told we could come at once. The receptionist was friendly, we waited just a few minutes and saw the vet. He was precessional and efficient, giving us his clear diagnoses and administering an anti-emetic. The following day he seemed much brighter, back to his normal chippy self (the dog, not the vet!) Thanks for excellent advice and care. There are parking places on the pavement beside the surgery.
