Never heard of these guys before I was referred by my primary vet for a neurology consult for my Labrador. Whilst sadness surrounded our visit the whole experience was really good. 👍 From referral to seeing the specialist was a matter of hours.
It’s of no surprise the advice and proposed plan were that of a high standard due to their niche speciality. All staff incredibly well suited to their profession be it as admin or as vets showing compassion and respect throughout. 10/10with the added bonus of the setting overlooking rolling hills which personally helped with the sadness of the occasion.
Re-posting as Google didn't publish - I can't even begin to speak highly enough of Alasdair, Claire, Sophie and the rest of the team at Pennine Referrals. Our Luna suffered a double ACL rupture on her back legs, of which we had no idea until we took her to Hydrotherapy with Trudie at AquaPaws. She referred Luna to Alasdair & Pennine after she was concerned, and Alasdair identified the issue straight away. Luna was under the knife for a TPLO procedure a few days later (late February 2025). The operation was a full success and, with some recuperative work, Luna has made a full recovery! She is back to being her bouncy, mischievous self, and it's all thanks to the work done by Alasdair, Claire & co and our recovery canine physio.
One thing that will always stay with me is the level of genuine care and empathy that we were offered throughout - it is clear that everyone at Pennine is an animal lover, and it shows. Sophie for us was a regular and reassuring presence as a point of contact and a friendly face, always happy to help and keen to make a big fuss of Luna whenever she was visiting!
On top of all the top quality care, the price to us for the operation was comparatively reasonable - nothing like this is cheap, but the team at Pennine are understanding and patient when it comes to the thorny topic of money.
We are so happy that our sweet girl was given just the best care, and the best chance to bounce back. All signs now point to her being able to go back to full activity for the rest of her days, and that would not have been achieved without Pennine referrals.

My dog was referred to Pennine after waking unable to walk. He was seen, MRI scanned and operated on the same day. Care from Pennine was exceptional. Communication was clear and honest. Operation was very successful. An early recovery UTI complicated things but again this was dealt with swiftly with my dog re-admitted for hydration and out the next day much happier.
Pennine’s took over Oreo’s care after we had experienced what can only be described as appalling care elsewhere following his bilateral luxating patella surgery. From the very first visit, the entire team was phenomenal. They didn’t have to take on his case, especially as they weren’t involved in his original surgery, but they chose to help us and I will always be incredibly grateful for that.
When we arrived at Pennine’s, we had been given information elsewhere that wasn’t accurate. The team took the time to explain what had actually happened, helped us understand Oreo’s condition properly, and gave us a clear and realistic plan moving forward with his recovery.
Oreo had been left with a significant amount of inflammation following a surgery that, in hindsight, was not necessary. As my assistance dog, he is so much more than a pet, he is my independence, my constant companion, and my sidekick. The thought of losing all the progress we had worked so hard for, having to retire him, and losing the life we had built together was heartbreaking.
Alasdair took on Oreo’s care and was absolutely incredible. He carefully watched him walk, assessed him properly, and identified discomfort in his knees through hands-on examination, something we had previously been told wasn’t there. From that moment, we had a plan. We were given the go-ahead for hydrotherapy and physiotherapy, and although the journey was scary, I felt completely confident that Oreo was in the right hands.
Today we had his final X-rays, and there was a possibility that the outcome could have meant further surgery.
Thankfully, his inflammation has reduced, and he is now able to get back to a more normal life. Pennine’s completely changed the direction of Oreo’s recovery, and I honestly don’t know where we would be without their expertise, honesty, and support.
The whole team has been amazing throughout. Every question was answered, everything was explained clearly, and after such a difficult experience trusting someone else with my boy was incredibly hard, but they gave me that trust back.
On top of the exceptional care, the little things didn’t go unnoticed. The practice was wheelchair accessible (which is sadly not something you find everywhere), beautifully clean, welcoming, and well cared for. The offer of a cup of tea on arrival and the kindness of everyone there made such a difference.
In the nicest possible way, I hope I never have to see Pennine’s again because that would mean Oreo is continuing to do well!
But I will forever be grateful that we found them. They have given my boy the chance to recover and have completely changed the future we were facing.

We were referred here from our normal vets and we were looked after from day one , very professional , staff on the front desk were great .
The only down side is for financial reasons , yes we had insurance but how any one can justify charging you nearly 5000 pound for an operation on a pet is just crazy . But I suppose for that sort of money you would expect a top notch service . Who ever is reading this of you don’t have insurance for your pet when you get up tomorrow make sure it’s the fist thing you do .

We were advised by our vet that our beloved dog had a mass that could be cancer and required further investigation with the possibility of having to have him put to sleep. We were of course devastated. We had never heard of Pennine Referrals before and in all honesty were a little apprehensive. We had no need to be. On my first conversation getting Bertie booked in, I found them to be gentle, empathetic and efficient, immediately putting my mind at ease. Alasdair came across as extremely knowledgable and confident that he could help our Bertie and I felt encouraged and supported in his expertise. Deciding to put a senior dog through major surgery was not an easy decision but with Alasdair’s clear explanation of what the surgery would entail and his honest and realistic assessment of Bertie’s condition and outcome made the decision making process so much easier. I felt thoroughly supported and confident in his ability to do the best for our boy.
The staff have been excellent and extremely patient with Bertie’s very stressed owner and have made me feel like nothing is too much trouble. A truly wonderful team who hopefully have given us a few more years with our cheeky chap. Thank you just doesn’t cover it.
From first contact from my local vet practice through to discharge, Pennine referrals have been exceptional. Pre-op instructions, surgery, post-op instructions and pricing were all clearly explained. I was confident that my dog was in very safe and skilled hands. Surgery went really well with no complications, after care was brilliant and everyone was so friendly.
