Recent reviews paint a mixed picture: some owners describe detailed cost explanations before treatment, quick access to short‑notice appointments when a pet’s condition changes, and proactive follow‑up calls/updates; others allege disorganisation, attempted overcharging for a heart scan (£1,000 quoted vs £600 elsewhere), and serious concerns about clinical judgement/handling of a long‑term lump that was reportedly not tested until much later.

I wanted to check the opening times of the vets today and was surprised by the amount of negative comments - I understand everyone has a different experience but thought I would share mine. I have been backwards and forwards to this vets (where my dog has been registered for 4 years) quite a lot over the past 2 weeks. Vets are pricey, everyone knows that, but if you look at nearby comparisons it’s fairly reasonable and the staff, both doctors and receptionists, are always trying to cut costs if they can. For example, the doctors will always explain in detail any procedures and costs before anything is done, and the receptionists are super helpful when trying to give discounts for registered patients and explaining everything when making insurance claims. The staff are all so friendly, and although sometimes different doctors do tell you slightly different things, I think this is more from a place of not wanting to guarantee a certain outcome and want to give you all the possible information to make an informed choice. I have been constantly updated by the vets for the whole time, and have also been called to check my pets wellbeing constantly, even though I don’t often have my phone on me due to unsociable work hours - they always make time to talk. They ask me to update them if anything is wrong and as soon as I do, they are on the phone offering me options, advice and reassurance. I’m always given appointments at very short notice if my pets condition changes, and although I have once had to wait a little bit in clinic (between being seen by them and awaiting test results etc), you could see that even though the clinic was incredibly busy (including emergencies) that the staff communicate with you at all times, and have seen on so many occasions where they reassure the most anxious pet parents. They have called me just before closing on so many occasions (to accommodate my work hours or to make sure they have updated me) and have answered my constant questions. This is a very busy vets from what I have seen and I’m still impressed by how quickly they will accommodate appointments if there is an urgent need for it. Particularly as the human doctors in the area are not nearly as accommodating or caring! I’m not going to discredit any negative reviews, but I will vouch for their professionalism and care for my pet. Also, to add, I have an English bulldog which can often be subjected to stigma in relation to the breed - every issue is because of his brachycephalic breed. However, although they make you aware of the risks associated with that in regards to treatment and presentation, they are very compassionate with it without judgement.

Most unorganised vet practice ever and try to overcharge. Been calling for 3 times for an appointment, took them 8hours to confirm they can’t even give an appointment. Normal heart scan at other vet charges me £600 and they try to charge £1000. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

RUN FROM THIS PLACE! They are unprofessional, do not honour the Vet Code of Professional Conduct that says it's MANDATORY providing 24hour emergency care and first aid to all animals, including wildlife ( regardless the species!). I found an injured pigeon today, the leg was broken and bleeding, I took it there and they refused to give the bird the first aid! They don’t like animals, they are not compassionate people, they only care about profit! I tried to argue because I know the conduct code and they told me to leave. As I said I’d just leave if they took the bird, they called the police! I was looking forward to the police to come to see that situation: a person inside a vet, an injured animal, and they refusing to treat it and also wanted me out! I just reported them to Royal College Veterinarian Surgeons, attaching the pics that shows the place was completely empty, no clients, and they could do the pain relief if they wanted to, If they’d care about animals. The receptionist don’t knew even the vet practices duties and the manager/owner, a horrible woman, also shouldn’t had a better idea. Ironically they have a flyer talking about PIGEONS compassion fixed there. I hope this place will be closed for negligence, but for now, please don’t go there!

I wanted to write a review as we got an exceptional service at Poplar Vets last week; we always have been very happy but this time was exceptionally amazing. It started with Romane the vet nurse, she was so attentive and our two little jack russells clearly adored her. In turn, Dr Gean was very professional and managed a very good diagnostic which gave us huge peace of mind and clear instructions to follow. Thank you ever so much everyone at Poplar Vets!

I had my cat neutered here and it was the smoothest experience. Everyone was so friendly and polite and they made sure to explain the entire process. My cat was also super relaxed!! Great vet xxx

Great reception service, very friendly and helpful staff. Will answer all of your questions with patience! I just had my cat Snowy microchipped earlier today and the service was so quick, I didn’t even book ahead. Very convenient and I feel my cat is safe now. Thank you to the staff at Poplar vets, glad I chose this clinic.

🐾 If you love your pets, please read this before choosing Poplar Vets. 🐾 (I have attached their comms below verbatim). If you're unsure after reading this see their trustpilot score of 2/5... Over two years ago, we found a lump on our dog Archie. We did exactly what any responsible pet owner would do — we took him to our vet, voiced our concerns, and asked for it to be checked. They reassured us it was “just a fatty lump” and ran no tests to confirm it. We brought it up again. And again. Multiple check-ups over well over a year+, each time raising our worries — and each time, dismissed without a single test. When we finally saw a new vet, their reaction said it all: shock that it had never been tested. They immediately did a simple needle test and found mast cells. Archie had a subcutaneous mast cell tumour — one that had already spread to his lymph nodes and possibly his testes. Because it was left untreated for so long, surgery alone is no longer an option. The best we can hope for is partial removal, a month of aggressive radiotherapy and chemotherapy… and even with that, Archie’s life expectancy is now two years at best. We have been told, in no uncertain terms, that if this had been identified earlier, Archie’s prognosis could have been completely different. We contacted Poplar Vets to seek a resolution. They admitted negligence — but offered nothing more than a free consultation (as if we'd ever put our pets health in their hands again!), no meaningful apology, and no effort to truly address their failings. When we pushed back, they ignored us. When we went to the Veterinary Client Mediation Service, they refused to participate. Negligence is bad enough. But to refuse to even try to make things right is immoral. Archie’s life, and the huge emotional damage to our family, is the cost of their inaction. If you believe vets should be held accountable for the lives entrusted to them, please share this. Maybe then they’ll listen. Responses from the practise: As Archie may have been seen at times by a locum veterinary surgeon, who is no longer working with our practice, it would aid our investigation if you could kindly describe the veterinary surgeon(s) you recall seeing, or, if possible, confirm the specific dates when concerns about the swelling were raised. The idea that we should physically describe their own vet from 2 years ago because their records aren't kept! We sincerely apologize for any shortcomings in our assessment and follow-up of Archie's condition during his time under our care. We understand that this situation has caused you and your family significant emotional distress, and we are truly sorry for the additional worry and uncertainty this has created during an already difficult time. That is a clear admission of negligence! After I told them I wasn't satisfied with their offer of a free consultation and wanted an explanation, they have just ignored me (since 26th June and still waiting!)
